Exempt Blue Badge Holders - Letter to Islington Tribune - Friday 20th January

20 Jan 2023

A disabled neighbour, who has a blue badge but lives just outside the Highbury LTN, told me she gave up after 30 minutes struggling with the online form which requires some of her medical records to be uploaded.

She is reluctant to bother her GP with a request for written confirmation of her medical conditions, especially at this busy time of year.

The individual exemption route is a helpful option for those who do not qualify for a blue badge. But why not simply allow all of Islington’s blue badge holders to be exempt from LTN restrictions?

It would streamline the process and mean that all blue badge holders, no matter where they live in the borough, are treated the same. It’s something that Islington Liberal Democrats have long been calling for.
