E-bike hire is revolutionising travel in Islington: clean, affordable, and convenient. But careless parking is cluttering pavements and endangering pedestrians. We need smarter solutions.

Too often…

  • E-bikes block pavements
  • Parking bays are badly placed or ignored
  • There's no enforcement or clear code of conduct

Neighbouring boroughs have tackled this problem by introducing mandatory parking zones and now see 90% of dockless bikes using them.

We’re calling for change with the introduction of a Charter for Bike Hire:
  • A code of conduct for e-bike companies: performance targets requiring bikes to be parked in a designated location; removal of obstructing bikes within one hour of being reported; action to prevent hacking of bikes
  • Mandatory parking zones to enforce clear, consistent rules; these should be on the highway wherever possible
  • Unified standards across central London for simplicity and fairness
  • More cycle bays in practical, high-use locations
  • Proper consultation with residents on where bays should go

A Charter for Bike Hire

E-bike hire is revolutionising travel in Islington: clean, affordable, and convenient. But careless parking is cluttering pavements and endangering pedestrians. We call on the council to improve e-bike cycle parking in Islington by creating a Charter for Bike Hire: to introduce a code of conduct for e-bike companies; push for unified standards across London; and create a network of mandatory parking zones, chosen after proper consultation with residents.
