Delight as Upper Street Post Office Saved From Closure
Islington Liberal Democrats have welcomed the announcement that the Upper Street Post
Office has been saved, with a new operator secured to take over the vital community
service.
As soon as the Post Office announced plans to close the Upper Street branch, the Islington
Liberal Democrat team launched a petition to prevent closure.
Today, the Post Office announced that Universal Office Equipment (UK) Ltd. (UOE), led by
experienced postmaster Elliot Jacobs, will take on the running of the branch—ensuring
continuity of service for residents and businesses.
Commenting on the development, local Liberal Democrat campaigner Kate Pothalingam
said: "This is fantastic news for our community. We’re delighted the branch now has a more
secure future and will continue to serve residents, businesses, and visitors for years to come
with the same range of services;"
She continued:
“This outcome is thanks to the many residents who backed our campaign. Without the
community’s backing - alongside the support of our 72 Lib Dem MPs in Parliament - this
would not have been possible. It’s a win for local people.”
The Liberal Democrats reaffirm their commitment to safeguarding local services and holding
franchise operators to the highest standards of delivery and accountability.
