Clerkenwell Liberal Democrats have welcomed the announcement that the Mount Pleasant Post Office has been saved, with a new operator secured to take over the vital community service.

Universal Office Equipment (UK) Ltd. (UOE), led by experienced postmaster Elliot Jacobs, will take on the running of the branch—ensuring continuity of service for local residents and businesses.

Commenting on the development, local Liberal Democrat campaigner for Clerkenwell Kevin Chun said:

“We’re pleased that the Mount Pleasant Post Office now has a more secure future. While there are still some concerns about the nature of the franchise agreement and the long-term tenure of the new operator, we will be monitoring the situation closely to ensure a high-quality service.”

He continued:

“This outcome is thanks to local residents who backed out campaign. Without the community’s backing—and the support of Lib Dems 72 MPs in Parliament—this would not have been possible. It’s a win for local people.”

The Liberal Democrats reaffirm their commitment to safeguarding local services and holding franchise operators to the highest standards of delivery and accountability.
